Initiatives for Respect for Human Rights

Basic Concept

Respect for human rights is an internationally important issue as the foundation for building a sustainable society, and there is a growing demand for initiatives in corporate activities.

For Pigeon, whose purpose is “We want to make the world more baby-friendly by furthering our commitment to understanding and addressing babies’ unique needs.” respecting the human rights of all people involved in our business is both our responsibility in conducting business activities around the world and an important factor in enhancing our corporate value.
Understanding and respecting internationally recognized human rights serves as a guiding principle and standard in our Corporate Ethics Code, and we have established the Pigeon Group Human Rights Policy and the CSR Procurement Policy and Guidelines, and we will work on these initiatives together with our partners.

Pigeon Group Human Rights Policy

At the Pigeon Group, where “Love” is our Corporate Philosophy and “Only love can foster love” is our Credo, respecting human rights is fundamental to our business activities. To advance our efforts to respect human rights, we formulated the Pigeon Group Human Rights Policy, which was approved at the Board of Directors meeting in May 2024.

High-priority human rights areas

While we respect all internationally recognized human rights throughout our value chain, we recognize the following human rights as high-priority human rights areas in the context of the Pigeon Group’s business operations and business relationships. Our positions with respect to these high-priority areas are described below.

We also expect our business partners, including suppliers and contractors, to act in accordance with these positions.

  • Non-discrimination
  • Prohibition of harassment
  • Prohibition of child labor and protection of young workers
  • Prohibition of forced and compulsory labor
  • Working conditions, including wages and working hours
  • Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
  • Occupational health and safety
  • Indigenous peoples and local communities

Structures and Systems

To responsibly address the impact of the Pigeon Group's corporate activities on human rights, we have designated 'Human Rights' as one of the key risks to be monitored by the Global Head Office(GHO) Risk Management Committee, which is chaired by the head of GHO. The Business Strategy Division has been designated as the human rights risk owner, and the status of initiatives concerning key risks, including human rights, is regularly reported to the Board of Directors. The Pigeon Group promotes respect for human rights based on its framework for promoting respect for human rights, which is based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. We are committed to respecting the human rights of people (stakeholders) affected by our business activities, products, services, and value chain.

  • Board of Directors: Decides on matters critical to fulfilling the commitment to respect human rights
Monitors compliance with this policy and human rights due diligence
  • Risk Management Committee: Regularly reports progress to the Board of Directors
  • Human Rights Risk Owner: Implements human rights respect initiatives under the appointment of the Risk Management Committee Chair
  • Each Division/Group Company under Each Business Unit: Promotes awareness and dialogue among employees and business partners

Human Rights Respect Initiative Process

The Pigeon Group will implement 1. human rights impact assessments, 2. prevention and mitigation of adverse impacts, 3. monitoring, and 4. explanation and disclosure through its business activities and supply chain, and will continue these efforts under the responsibility of management.

Human Rights Respect Initiative Process

  1. human rights impact assessments

At Pigeon, we identify and assess negative impacts on human rights in our business activities based on the concept of human rights due diligence in order to promote management that respects human rights.

In November 2024, we conducted a human rights risk survey targeting employees* of our domestic group companies. Prior to this survey, we conducted internal training on business and human rights so that each employee could understand human rights issues as something that concerns them personally. This training covered the 26 types of human rights issues advocated by the Ministry of Justice and deepened understanding of the human rights risks inherent in daily work.
Based on responses from employees and advice from external experts, we identified apparent and potential human rights risks in our business activities and conducted an impact assessment.
*Employees... directors and auditors, regular employees, contract employees (including re-employed contract employees), temporary agency workers, part-time employees, and casual workers

The top five items deemed particularly high-risk are as follows:
Power harassment / Excessive and unreasonable working hours / Safe and healthy working environment / Freedom of expression / Sexual harassment

Future Initiatives
We are implementing various initiatives to prevent and mitigate human rights risks identified through our investigations.
Specifically, we will foster a culture of human rights respect by utilizing our Speak Up reporting channel as a complaint handling mechanism for early detection and corrective action, alongside refining internal regulations and conducting ongoing training. Furthermore, we will conduct continuous risk assessments through regular risk investigations and dialogue with external experts.

2. prevention and mitigation of adverse impacts

At Pigeon, we focus on preventing and mitigating identified adverse human rights impacts to ensure steady progress in our human rights initiatives.
Based on the results of our 2024 human rights risk survey, we established a new system within our Japan BU in 2025. Under this system, we are promoting the following activities.

1) Promotion of Corrective Actions

We hold biannual regular meetings, and at the first meeting in June 2025, we kicked off corrective actions. At subsequent meetings, we share and report progress, advancing initiatives to enhance the organization's overall responsiveness.

2) Understanding the Actual Situation and Continuous Improvement

Through interviews and surveys, we accurately assess the current situation and implement prompt corrective actions. By continuously monitoring the effectiveness of these actions, we ensure sustained improvement.

Through these initiatives, we will foster a culture that respects human rights and build an environment where all stakeholders can work with peace of mind.

    • Human Rights Meeting Following the formulation of the Human Rights Policy, as the first step in the Group-wide human rights initiative, the first Human Rights Meeting was held in August 2024, hosted by the Human Rights Risk Owner and attended by human rights representatives from the Japan, China, Singapore, and Lansino businesses. The meeting provided an explanation of the Pigeon Group's human rights initiatives and shared examples of initiatives within the Lansinoh Group with each country.
    • Multilingual Translation of Human Rights Policy

We translate and disclose our Human Rights Policy in nine languages to promote understanding and adoption across all regions.

    • Education and Training

The Pigeon Group promotes initiatives to respect human rights with the aim of promoting understanding and permeation of the Pigeon Group Human Rights Policy. As a first step, in November 2024, we conducted e-learning on “Business and Human Rights” for all employees of domestic group companies, including Pigeon Corporation, and achieved a result of 93.6% (1,458 people) obtaining a perfect score. Going forward, we will implement similar training at Pigeon Group companies overseas to establish a culture of respect for human rights. We will also verify the effectiveness of the training by regularly referring to quantitative indicators such as human rights risk surveys, and strive for continuous improvement.

Human Rights in the Supply Chain

The Pigeon Group promotes CSR procurement, including respect for human rights, and places importance on mutual communication with its business partners in order to fulfill its social responsibilities in each process of the supply chain.

  • CSR Procurement Assessment

Since 2021, we have conducted CSR procurement assessments using the Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) developed by the United Nations Global Compact Network Japan (GCNJ), and we also interview partners regarding their efforts to respect human rights.

  • Production of Partnership Book for Achieving Responsible Procurement

We will create a partnership book and engage in dialogue to ensure understanding of the Pigeon Group's approach to responsible procurement (CSR procurement) and to foster collaboration.

For details, please refer to “Promoting Responsible Procurement.”
