LEED Gold Certification for Environmentally Friendly Facilities (Turkey)

In June 2022, Pigeon’s factory in Turkey, Lansinoh Laboratories Medical Devices Design Industry and Commerce Ltd.Co. (“LMD”), received a Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)* certificate under the Building Operation & Maintenance category for existing buildings.

^{＊LEED is a system developed by the nonprofit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for assessing the environmental functionality of buildings, urban spaces, and other built environments. It is run by the USGBC, with certifications assessed by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI). To receive LEED certification, facilities must have a positive impact on peoples’ health and promote renewable green energy while lowering costs and resource usage.}

Specific Initiatives

Sustainable land management

・Exterior lighting fixtures were replaced with more economical and efficient ones.
・A Land Management Policy was formulated, clarifying how plants are to be cared for and specifying the use of environmentally friendly fertilizers.
・A Land Development Plan was created based on an evaluation of the existing landscape was and the maintenance and irrigation needs of its plants.
・A rainwater collection system was installed so that rainwater can be collected from roofs and hard floors and used for landscape irrigation.

Location and traffic

・An employee questionnaire was conducted regarding commuting and transit during work, and the company’s usage of public transport and other low–CO2 emissions transportation methods was deemed appropriate.

Water efficiency

・The water consumption of all indoor fixtures was evaluated. Water consumption was reduced and is now monitored.

Energy and atmosphere

・Energy efficiency audits were carried out, and the building was rated 84% for ENERGY STAR® Energy Performance.

Materials and resources

・A Sustainable Purchasing Policy was formulated, ensuring that environmentally friendly materials would be selected preferentially.
・A Waste Management Policy was formulated, waste reduced, and recycling rates increased.

Indoor quality of life

・A Green Cleaning Policy was formulated, and the ventilation systems, lighting, and cleaning processes improved.
