In 2019, PIGEON SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. (“PS”) began collecting used plastic nursing bottles. This activity began from a desire to leave a rich Earth for tomorrow’s babies by allowing nursing bottles no longer used at home to be reborn in new forms. In 2023, in order to encourage a deeper understanding of the plastic cycle and upcycling,* PS teamed up with Plastify, an NPO which works to educate people about plastic recycling, to hold events at which used plastic nursing bottles, caps, and hoods are upcycled into nametags for babies.

* Upcycling: Adding new value to a product by recycling it into something new.

Making the nametags

First, the collected nursing bottles are washed and broken down into plastic pellets. Those pellets are then melted down and poured into a mold. Compression using body weight completes the process, resulting in a finished name tag. Participants carry out these steps by hand, directly experiencing the process by which nursing bottles become nametags. PS holds both internal and external workshop events that give participants hands-on experience of the plastic cycle.

Nametag-making workshops and presents at Baby Fair

PS held nametag-making workshops for customers at a baby fair held in April 2024. Over three days, 250 nametags were handed out.
